  • Game on – what’s your favorite game?

Full disclosure. I do like some games, but don’t often have people to play them with. But why do I like them? They can be exciting, and a way to engage time playing alone or with friends.
You could be fighting scores of bad guys, or racing, or building a farm.

I recently sold on my Nintendo switch as hadn’t used it in a while.
I reckon though one of the greatest games on it for me was Hades.
Anyone familiar with that title? It’s a rogue, story rich adventure where you plan the son of Hades and Persephone. Your mission is to fight your way out of the underworld.
As you overcome some characters they join sides with you, others only seek to destroy. The destination at the end is worth it, but there’s a lot of baddies to meet on the way.

Now, my desktop is quite old so doesn’t have the graphics card for some games. I mostly play Civilization 5 through Steam Powered. Anyone familiar with Civilization? You’re building a country up from the beginning of the world.

As for board games, I am pretty good at scrabble. This is what I grew up playing a lot.
I like more complex games too, and card games are awesome as well.
I once played an awesome co-op game called Freedom. You play as part of the underground railroad helping slaves escape to Canada. I highly recommend it.
But if you can do dungeons and dragons, that’s a lot of fun too.

  • We hold these truths to be certain

    Daily writing prompt
List 10 things you know to be absolutely certain.

    This is me

There’s a lot of things people are certain about, am I right?

Sometimes we think history happened one way, then we find other evidence.

So here are my 10 certainties in life

    1. My first certainty is I don’t know everything, and hardly anybody could do. It makes us curious to find the answers we don’t yet know.
    2. Dinosaurs once walked the earth
    3. The sun rises and sets each day
    4. When you travel outside your own town you will meet others who are different to you
    5. Disabled lives matter- and work is needed to help disabled people
    6. Superman has always been woke and diverse. You just have to look at the older posters to see the evidence.
    7. Everyone deserves equal rights to clean water, safe housing, good healthcare etc.
    8. Change and revolution takes work, and often people won’t like it.
    9. That I had a near death experience at 15 and was in intensive care for 2 months.
    10. Donald Trump’s name is in the Epstein files – no wonder he is trying to hide it.

  • What’s so cool about Beth?

What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
Photo by Mike Murray on Pexels.com

If I asked others what their favourite thing about me was, I’d get different responses, and I am probably one of my worst critics.

Actually, I have two favourite thing s about myself – my energy for performing, and my creativity & imagination.

These are the things that have always stood out.

Without my writing stories from a young age my headmaster at junior school would never have seen my gift. He was so pleased that I got the school honour award. At the time I had just joined school late, after being put in a special needs class for a while. And I wasn’t like the other boys, didn’t have their energy. Discovering this gift meant I was recognised.

My writing and creativity won several other awards and recognitions during my childhood. Probably my proudest one was a large Blue Peter badge (which I sold ten years ago for £25 on Ebay).

With performing, I was able to show others what I could do. This still meant the other kids made life heck but also some of the teachers saw my gift.

So those are two of my favourite things about myself.

  • Passions

The big passion in my life is social inclusion.

As someone with learning disabilities, neurodiverse and transgender status I have seen a lot of exclusion.

From a childhood being bullied at school, to a constant feeling of not fitting in anywhere, this is my world.

The harsh truth is society doesn’t do enough to include diverse groups, and we are often not well represented in the media. I bet you would struggle to name more than one learning disabled actor or performer, right? Or a learning disabled character portrayed positively on screen or in a book?

Transgender issues are equally problematic. I am grateful to have never struggled looking feminine, but others don’t have that. They receive a great amount of abuse, and frequently are rejected by their families are communities.

There are other passions I have, but it feels like the fight for social inclusion is the big one. I’m also passionate about theatre, arts, creativity, mental health, social justice, and human rights.

  • Luxury I can’t live without

This sounds silly talking about luxuries that we can’t live without.

Why? I tend to view luxuries as wants not needs but really there are luxuries we need.

Freedom and independence are luxuries. They are not guarantees, but can we live without them? We can mostly.

Clean water is also a luxury though to some people. Now that’s one big thing we actually need.

What else would some call a luxury? Affordable healthcare. Thank God for the National Health Service then here in UK.

But am still not sure what I call a luxury that I can’t actually live without. As someone who can’t reach for normal adult goals so well the luxury I can’t live without is a good sense of self-worth. It doesn’t mean I have it yet but it’s still a luxury that I need.

  • My tagline

So today there was writing prompt which said if humans had taglines what would yours be. That gets me thinking.

If there was a phrase which would describe me it would be a celebration of originality that also expressed my purpose and my journey.

I see my purpose these days as taking each day as it comes. Because of what I am my journey has been one of social rejection, and self-doubt.

For example – “Living my life, my way”, “See the world differently”, or “Change doesn’t happen by itself.”
